I recently had the privilege of speaking at the Indie Filmmaker’s Amplifier event on March 8, 2025, at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre. This full-day workshop, organized by the Mississauga Arts Council and producer Cathleen MacDonald, focused on “Making a living making films” and provided emerging and mid-career filmmakers with invaluable insights into the industry.

The event featured a series of interactive workshops, case studies, pitch sessions, and networking opportunities with veteran industry professionals. Participants engaged in sessions covering various aspects of filmmaking, from production and distribution to entertainment law. The collaborative atmosphere fostered meaningful connections among filmmakers, industry leaders, and enthusiasts alike.

During my session on accessing alternative forms of film funding, I was inspired by the passion and determination of the attending filmmakers. Their eagerness to explore innovative financing strategies and dedication to bringing their compelling projects to life were truly commendable. It was a reminder of the vibrant and resilient spirit within our filmmaking community, and I look forward to seeing the remarkable stories these talented individuals will share with the world.
